Lexus is a brand that is synonymous with quality and comfort. It may not have the history that its German counterparts may have been Lexus is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Take the latest LFA as an example; Lexus has produced a performance that can rival exotics from Ferrari, Lamborghini and any other high end brand that isn’t afraid to come out and play. Let’s take a look of some of the automaker’s most prolific vehicles.

The Lexus LS is a powerful sedan boasting a powerful V8 engine. The 4.6 Liter engine puts out 357 hp and acceleration is brisk and powerful. It’s a great daily driver and doesn’t emphasize super performance; this cruiser is about making you feel comfortable. The LS is known for being super quiet; the cabin is very well engineered and stays quiet even as you are zooming down the highway. Standard features include seats that can be heated and cooled, compatibility with music players and a stereo system with a cd changer. Available options include a navigation system, a dvd entertainment system and even a refrigerator. Mileage stands at 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. This vehicle is competitive with the Mercedes Benz S-Class but at a much more affordable price. Pricing starts at around the late k figures.

The IS is an entry level luxury car that gives consumers the selection of picking from two engines; a six cylinder with 204 horsepower or a more robust engine one which puts out 306 hp. The base model is priced to sell at around thirty three thousand bucks.

The IS is also available as a convertible with a hard top that retracts down with the touch of a button. Standard features include leather seats and a stereo system. The IS is a little bit younger than the ES line; it’s more hip, trendier and more performance oriented.

If you want to take it to a whole other stratosphere check out the LFA. This is a high performance car that is on par with high performance exotic cars. The engine is actually a V10 and outputs 560 hp and 354 lb feet of torque. It can vroom from zero to sixty in just 3.7 seconds. This sports coupe seats two individuals and showcases a body constructed with carbon fiber reinforced polymer. Base price for this vehicle is around 5,000. Only 500 models will be produced worldwide. The actual engine is actually autographed by the engineered who built it. The Mark Levinson sound system comes with twelve speakers. Socialite Paris Hilton received a white LFA from her ex boyfriend for her birthday. Photographs of the event can be found online.

In conclusion, Lexus has a little something to offer everyone. If you want ultimate luxury in a comfortable and gorgeous car that is a great every day driver, check out the LS. If you prefer something a bit younger and sportier then the IS may just fit the bill. The LFA is not suitable as an everyday driver but it’s one of the most well engineered high performance cars in the world.

How are the American luxury cars' quality compared to the foreign luxury car quality? I mean by luxury, like Cadillac, or Bentley, McClaren, Jaguar, Benz, Lexus,...

    • ANSWER:
It has improved significantly in the past ten years to the point where reliability issues is pretty much a non-issue in modern American cars. In fact cars from all manufacturers including the dreaded Hyundai have improved drastically. Today the worst in reliability according to Consumer Reports is Land Rover but their reliability is still superior to the reliability of Toyota of ten years ago. Do not worry, reliability is very good today, its not like the '70s where some cars literally started to come apart while coming off the assembly line.

  19. QUESTION:
Why do economy cars get better gas mileage then luxury cars?
I am doing a project for my business stat class. My group is doing research on gas mileage of cars and found out that on average economy cars get better gas mileage than luxury cars. and we were wondering why this would be. I have been doing online research and haven't been able to find out why this is; I am hoping some one here could help me out.

    • ANSWER:
Economy cars are usually much lighter and have smaller engines than luxury cars.

      Here is a perfect example

      A 2009 Lexus LS430 has a 4.6 liter V8 engine and weighs 4244lbs. It gets 16mpg city/24mpg highway.

A 2009 Toyota Avalon (which the Lexus LS430 is based off of) has a 3.5 liter V6 and weighs 3490lbs. It gets 19mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

Luxury cars are expected to be much smoother and quieter than some cheaper cars. To do that, the additional sound deadning materials and techniques require the car be heavier. Luxury cars are also expected to be a little faster than economy cars therefore a larger more powerful motor is needed.

  20. QUESTION:

  24. QUESTION:
What are some luxury cars? Stuff about cars in general?
Considering that I will driving in a couple of years, I've decided i want to know as much about cars as I possibly can. From different types and models to different parts. I've decided to start with car brands and luxury cars, and what makes them luxury. I can name a few brands, like porsches, corvettes, and ferraris, but that's about it. Can anyone tell me other luxury cars, and give me a couple of good sites about cars?? I truly appreciate it.

    • ANSWER:
The "Top 5" commonly distributed Luxury vehicles for the US market include brands such as Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz, however there are plenty more "luxury brands" that compete in the luxury market which include manufacturers such as, Cadillac, Jaguar-Landrover, Porsche, Volvo, Lincoln and Acura which all fall under the "10 Best-Selling Luxury Auto Brands in America". Some of the cars you have listed below are not luxury brands although some do cary MSRP pricing similar to the prices of a luxury vehicle such as the Chevrolet Corvette. Although the Corvette does have a starting price of ,950 it is not a luxury vehicle, it is intended to be a Sport Performance Coupe. Usually most of the popular entry class luxury vehicles in America start at around ,000 which consist of cars like the 2011 Lexus IS, or 2011 Audi A4 while prices can quickly inflate to thousands of dollars for a luxury vehicle which can consist of larger sedans or SUVs such as the Mercedes S-class which has a starting price of ,000 while a Mercedes G-class starts at 5,750. Personally my top two favorite upscale brands in the luxury market are BMW and Infiniti, im all about Luxury and Performance and BMW and Infiniti surley offer that, they also appeal to a younger demographic while brands such as Lexus and Mercedes Benz appeal to an older demograhpic, they offer luxury & comfort more then they do performance.
Here are some sites you should take a look at.

      Infiniti site:
      http://www.infinitiusa.com/
      BMW site:
      http://www.bmwusa.com/
      Lexus site:
      http://lexususa.com/
      Audi site:
      http://progress.audiusa.com/
      Mercedes Benz site:
      http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/index

  25. QUESTION:
Do German luxury cars really need premium fuel?
Do German luxury cars (Audi, BMW, Mercedes) really need premium fuel? I want to buy one of their near-luxury cars (3 series), but with gas being so high, I don't want to fill it with premium fuel if I don't need to.

    • ANSWER:
Lots of European cars in America need high-octane fuel.
In Europe standard fuel is 95 octane and premium is 98 octane.

In the US I don't know the exact figures but i believe its lower than that.
A low octane fuel can damage an engine by igniting at a slightly different time than it was designed for, leading to, what some people have already said, knocking.

Also low octane fuel in a high octane engine causes sub-optimal performance and may actually DECREASE how many miles you get per gallon so with standard fuel you might actually end up paying more in fuel

  26. QUESTION:
Why don't some European luxury cars have model numbers on the back?
When I was in Europe, specifically France and England, I noticed that luxury cars like Mercedes and BMW sometimes don't have model numbers on the back, like S550 or 328i. Why is this?

    • ANSWER:
In certain countries in Europe it has become quite popular to get cars tuned by specialist tuning companies. In my opinion it would be more prevalent in Germany than France and England. Because of the Autobahn. > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFwotHgR8nQ

Open track days have become very popular across Europe but of course again more so in Germany. > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEjk6yeRs1k

These tuning companies will sometimes remove the model numbers or replace them with their own numbers or name. An example here. > http://www.kahndesign.com/automotive/projectkahn/?page=s7&id=s7&make=bmw

  29. QUESTION:
What luxury cars get great gas mileage?
Looking for 2010, 2011 or 2012 luxury car for around 30,000 with close to 40 mpg. My wife and I don't want to settle for a Prius or Civic, but we do want good MPG because we drive so much. Is this possible without spending too much more?

    • ANSWER:
If you take a closer look at the Prius, you'll see that you aren't "settling". It has many of features only found in luxury cars. It's a mid-sized car, not a compact like the Civic, so room is not a problem.

Note that decent luxury cars start at about ,000.

My 2004 Prius has cost 12 cents per mile for dealer maintenance, tires, and fuel combined over the 120,000 trouble-free miles I've driven it so far.

My 2004 Prius MPG from the logbook. (Complete years only):
      2003-2004 -- 50.8 mpg 17,628 miles
      2005 -- 52.6 mpg 14,688 miles
      2006 -- 56.3 mpg 16174 miles
      2007 -- 57.3 mpg 18384 miles
      2008 -- 59.9 mpg 21755 miles

The revenue collected from the tax equals the tax rate multiplied by total spending on such cars. There have been suggestions that the government could earn more tax revenue by increasing the tax rate on luxury cars. Would such an increase necessarily rays tax revenue? Explain.

If the elasticity of demand on luxury cars is less than 1, tax receipts would increase with a increase in the tax rate.

  32. QUESTION:
Are there any luxury cars that run on regular gas ?
I may be getting my hopes up, but I am looking to buy a used luxury car for around 00 that runs on regular gas. Does such a car exist?
I may be getting my hopes up, but am looking to purchase a luxury car for aorund 00 that runs on regular gas. Does such a car exist? I'm not looking at high-end luxury like BMW/Mercedes but something more like a Saab or an Acura.
When I say regular gas I mean octane rating

    • ANSWER:
Yes all street cars run on regular gas.

  33. QUESTION:
Are there any luxury cars that use regular octane gas?
Are there any luxury car brands that run on regular octane gas? I'm looking for a car between 00 to 00, so it probably wouldn't be made in the past 8-10 years. Are there any luxury car (Acura, Audi, Infiniti, Lexus etc) brands that manufacture a model that runs on regular octane?

    • ANSWER:
technically, any turbo car will run just fine on regular gas. the reason is because turbo applications require (or are fortunate, depending on how you look at it) the fueling systems to operate over a much wider range than a normally aspirated motor. what happens is that the engine control monitors engine knock and sets ignition timing as advanced as possible till it detects knock. when that happens, it simply pulls back timing. low octane fuel will simply cause the knock to happen sooner and you won't get the performance you would normally using a higher octane fuel. in the EXTREME case, there is a point where you fall so far outside the stock map that the car simply won't run.

the bad new is since most turbo cars are performance cars, you typically give up some luxury (with one exception that I can think of) and in your list, it's only audi that sells turbo cars (I think).

the good new is gas is cheap these days so I'd rethink the need for cheap regular octane fuel.

the really good new is one of the best kept secrets in the used car market, the 92-95 Audi S4/S6 fills both requirements. the 2.2 litre turbo is still considered to be a technological marvel, even today. And they are almost free (ok, they meet your price range) considering their original ~k base price!

  34. QUESTION:
are mercedes-benz cars in germany considered to be a luxury car, or is that for the american market?
what demographic does mercedes-benz appeal towards? in america it is considered to be a luxury car, are the european makes designed that way also?

    • ANSWER:
Larger Benz vehicles such as the S-Class are considered luxury vehicles in Germany as well but the brand, as a whole, is not. In Germany/Europe, Benz also sells the A and B-Class which are more entry level vehicles and many of their vehicles are also sold as stripper models. For example, you can buy an E-Class with cloth seats, steel wheels with hubcaps, no sunroof, etc., in Europe.

  35. QUESTION:
Are there any luxury cars that do no use premium gas?
Please dont answer me with "honda civic" or anything of that sort. I am strictly looking for a luxury style car.

    • ANSWER:
No car is designed to run on premium gas. Its a law the manufacturer cant even recomend it. In reality the few benifits like higer octane for more horsepower are not worth the extra $$ The engine and the computer are timmed for regular pump gas and thats all that should be used. Unless your reffering to some exotic forien car like lamborgeine or what ever. then you can afford the gas.

  36. QUESTION:
Why do so many asian teenagers in Pasadena California have luxury cars? ?
Why are there so many luxury cars there in general. Everywhere I look Mercedez, BMW? Are salaries there that high, what jobs do these people hold?

    • ANSWER:
Lots of Asians families that I know in the Pasadena / LA area work very hard and earn very well. They also tend to buy their kids nicer cars than some other parents who are just as wealthy.

There are people with very high salaries in CA. A first year attorney at a large LA law firm will make 0,000 their first year, with a maybe ,000 bonus. In their 7th or 8th year, they will make about 5,000 plus maybe a ,000 bonus. Partners make from over 0,000 to 2 million $+. Certain types of physicians make a similar amount, with surgeons and specialists on the higher end. Lots of asian doctors in Pasadena. I went to a party at a korean friend's home, and the korean women would introduce themselves to each other and ask What kind of doctor is your husband? Not - what does your husband do?! Many of the wives were attorneys.

And then there are those who make real $$$, like in entertainment, real estate developers, finance, and other types of business, etc. Although the economy is down, there are still people who are making the big bucks.

The top private non-religious high schools in LA cost from ,000 to ,000 per year tuition, plus donations. In some areas of LA, especially near Pasadena, those schools will be close to a third Asian. One of the very top public schools in the state is San Marino High, near Pasadena, and it's 70% asian. You can't buy a home in San Marino for under a million. So I guess all that schooling and hard work pays off! Arcadia is another well off community next to Pasadena, excellent schools, the high school is 70% asian.

I just hope the kids have some fun, too! Studying in high school until 2am, which I know they do, is NUTS. At my son's private school, the new asian parents always ask me if the students are ranked -- who is the #1 student, #2 student, etc. Nope, that would be too much pressure on the kids!

I am wanting a car that is more than your mother's Toyota, but am trying to keep the cost down. Any make&model suggestions? I'm looking primarily at new cars.

By luxury I'll assume you mean Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, Accura, MB, etc. A G35 or an S300 are the best cheaper ones. But I recommend the Mercedes Benz C350 that just came out, because it starts at a reasonable price, and it has everything you need.

How can luxury cars and fashion be linked together?
I notice that Mercedes-Benz is a sponsor of fashion events around the world, particulary in New York, but how do their cars and fashion come together? How could they use these events to promote cars, when in fact they are all about fashion?

    • ANSWER:
I think that fashion and luxury will go together! If the Mercedes-Benz is luxury and the person who is fashionable is luxurious, so therefore Mercedes-Benz is a fashion.. Simple logic but has a great effects in our mental consciousness.

Also, it sponsor fashion events for the purpose of promotion on the product! They will extend their expenses in order to get peoples thought that this product is existing and therefore their assets will increase.

  40. QUESTION:
how quickly after World War II did European countries , such as Germany, begin to see Luxury sports cars?
such as the Porshe or the Merceedes luxury cars? what about ferrari's etc?

and who, how people could afford these? were their many in Germany? in east and west? how about France or Britain? which jobs they had?

    • ANSWER:
At first its Porsche and Mercedes.

In GErmany the rate of car owners was much less then in USA or UK before 1950s. Because railway was best developed in the world. So its seem to be a contradiction that Porsche and MErcedes (the firm is "Daimler-Benz", "MErcedes" is only a trademark for the cars) started to develope sports cars in the late 1940s: They were only sold to less then 1 % of the GErman population, maybe only 1/1000 I dont know exactly!
The most popular car in GErmany in 1950s and 1960s was the VW Käfer!

Why is it that these cars tend to devalue more rapidly than normal cars?

  45. QUESTION:
How much more is parts for a Jaguar, Porsche and other luxury cars?
I'm looking at buying an old Jaguar or Lotus or something for my first car. I have enough saved up and have a couple in mind, but I don't want to be spending a fortune on parts and repair. I know they are more expensive to service, but about how much more compared to a Nissan, or other mid-class cars?
    Thanks,
    -Tony

    • ANSWER:
You don't need exact numbers to understandf that high end luxury car parts and service are just as expensive as the car was when it was new.

Compare the price of a Jaguar on the new car lot to a Nissan Maxima. Apply that same cost difference to the labor and parts prices for that car when it needs to be serviced. Used high end Euopean luxury cars are unreliable and expensive to maintain, it's just the way it is. They are also twice the price to insure.

There is a price to pay for entering into that luxury car "club". When they are new they are expensive to buy. When they are used they are unreliable and come with high maintenance costs.

  46. QUESTION:
Suppose the government does bail out the auto industry. Who is going to buy the luxury cars they put out?
Bailing out the industry may keep workers on the job. But the rest of us may not have the where-with-all to buy the cars unless the government does something to promote the manufacture of affordable cars.

    • ANSWER:
I guess noone will. I would rather have a roof over my head and food on my table for my kids then an expensive car.

  47. QUESTION:
Do real estate "home stagers" ever park luxury cars in the driveway to make homes look more desirable?
I'm wondering if home staging professionals ever seek to park flashy, expensive cars in the driveways of high-end homes in order to make the properties look even more upscale and desirable to potential buyers. Is this ever done? If so, how do they procure the vehicles to park there? From dealers? Car companies?

    • ANSWER:
I have been in real estate for 32 years. Staging is thought to help the home show better- not to pull attention away from the house. A car of any kind parked in front of a house blocks part of the view and does not help sell the house.

  49. QUESTION:
What makes luxury cars worth it?
Does anyone know what makes a Mercedes or BMW worth the extra money? Do hey have better safety or performance? It seems like most cars today are all pretty safe and most people don't race with their luxury cars, so whats the allure? other than as a status symbol.

    • ANSWER:
Mercedes, Lexus, BMW's, etc are typically safer than most "regular" cars. For example, the Lexus LS has a Pre-Crash system that monitors both, you and the road, and will alert you of a possible collision. If a collsion is deemed as unavoidable, it tightens the front seatbelts and applies a degree of braking force, thereby dramatically reducing the speed of impact and the risk of injury. It also has Active Front Headrests which will move slightly out and upward to reduce the risk of whiplash. What "regular" cars have systems like that?

You are correct in the fact that most people don't race in their luxury cars, however people still want something that is fast and fun to drive. Most people who want that either buy a BMW M, a Mercedes AMG, or an F-series Lexus. All of which perform much better than your typical non-luxury car.

Part of the "allure" is status, but that's not all of it. High-end luxury cars are typically more comfortable, safer, better performers, and are sometimes more reliable. They also have many more features than a normal car. What normal cars can park themselves, like the Lexus LS can. What normal cars can brake for you if you become distacted, like the Mercedes E-class and S-class can.

Some people will argue that these features mentioned above are not worth it. But, if you have the money to buy anything you want, they are.

  50. QUESTION:
Do you know of motor clubs where you can borrow luxury cars in exchange for paying an annual membership fee?
I've read about such motor clubs in the January 2011 issue of Complex Magazine. The article was describing motor clubs in places like New York. These clubs allow you to borrow cars like a top of the line Ferrari or an Audi Spyder for an annual membership fee of ,000 or up to ,000 for some clubs.

Very intriguing. Does anybody here have first hand, personal knowledge of such clubs?

    • ANSWER:
I have a friend who is a member of such club in England. It is called Capital Prestige and the membership is as low as 1,000 pounds per year.
But you get to rent cars like Ferrari, Aston Martin, Maserati, Porsche and many more famous brands. He did informed me that he wanted to book for rental the new Ford GT 500 later this year.
I am not sure about in the US though but if you look hard enough, maybe you can find such club in either California or New York.
